I know it’s been a while since our field trip to the North-East of Brazil and I probably don’t remember all the hotels, clubs and special places we’ve been. But I wanted to share some of the pictures while traveling around – was my first time in South America back then and has been an absolute blast. So, instead of writing a lot, this one will be based on my impressions of Brazil, the people and the nature. Enjoy!
Olinda
Olinda was one of our first stops and lays in Pernambuco. It is one of the oldest cities in Brazil and we spent two days walking around the city and exploring. It is very historic and has a very clear displays of European heritage.

Recife
Recife is the capital of Pernambucu and our first stop. It was a nice town to easy into this new adventure as it was a pretty big city in comparison to some of the other stops we made along the way.

Maria Fe
Probably one of the most amazing stops during our trip. A boat picked us up and we drove over to Maria Fe, which is a little island around an hour away from the shore. We took the time for sunbathing and when we arrived, it was just the most beautiful scenery. We were able to relax, had amazing food (like really, probably one of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had – fish and fried sweet potatoes, sound simple but was oh SO good).

Tibau & Pipa
We stayed in really cute little houses in Tibau, however there was not too much to do unless you are getting a cap to drive around. Pipa was the closest, really cute little town, where we drove to eat, party and do our field research. It’s pretty famous, especially because of its dolphin bay – and yes we saw some, really really close.

Caruaru
In the mountains close to Caruaru we had the coolest trip- we all rode on big Jeeps on the rooftops (yeah, in Europe people would go nuts if you do so) to hot springs and enjoyed the beautiful nature. It was probably one of the coolest but also one of the most disturbing days, as we had to bring a guy, who crashed with his motorcycle, to the hospital and then the breaks of our Jeep crashed right when we went down a hill (It was all good, just a bit scary haha). But besides that, it was an amazing day, and I would most definitely go there again.

Natal
Our final stop was Natal, were we had more time to relax (I know the pictures look otherwise, but we actually had to do some work for university over there). We had amazing nights out with some of the Brazilians that we met along the way and visited a street project, where they teach kids and young adults Capoeira. Also, we went on a Buggy ride trip, which was awesome but also scary if you ride and jump from dune to dune and you are feeling like you are falling out.

Even though this blog post might not give you a bunch of information on which hotels are the best and stuff like that, but you get an impression on how great Brazil is and that the country is not only Rio de Janeiro but has a lot more to offer. I can highly recommend to travel to Rio Grande do Norte as we had such a nice time, did cool activities, had amazing food and met such friendly people – definitely worth a visit!
